With improving technology, unmanned aerial vehicles, a.k.a. drones, are becoming a set of intelligent eyes in the industrial world, acting like a cadre of well-trained reconnaissance rangers. Drone usage is now growing across all markets – industrial, public safety, retail, communications, and more.
Last month, research firm IDC said companies will spend $9.3 billion worldwide on drones in 2018, with a five-year compound annual growth rate of 32.1%. Enterprise drone systems would deliver more than half of all drone spending over the next five years, with spending mainly in the utilities ($925 million) and construction ($808 million) industries, IDC said. Other areas expected to see growth in spending include the process and discrete manufacturing industries, education, and government.
