Shape Robotics has developed the Fable robot system, which is a modular robot system for use in teaching students from 2nd grade to university.
Fable is a robotic construction system that makes it easy for anyone to create their own robots. Different types of modules can be snapped together in countless ways to create the robot’s body, senses and movements. Dependent on the user’s level of experience, the robot can be programmed using tools for either beginners or professionals.
The company’s online platform allows teachers to download easy to use educational material designed by certified educational consultants.
The company was founded in 2015 as a spin-off from DTU with the objective to commercialize the Fable modular robot system targeting educational institutions.
Shape’s initial key customers includes primary and secondary schools (K12), but they now also target high-schools and universities.
Fable competes with other educational robots, such as LEGO Mindstorms and WeDo, in the domain of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education. Unlike competing systems, Fable makes it easy to create advanced robots in very short time.
