Omron Automation Americas recently launched a new collaborative robot that can help manufacturers automate repetitive tasks and a manual teaching function that lets operators train the robot through hand-guidance instead of software.

The new TM Series Collaborative Robot includes built-in vision, a plug-and-play programming interface, and safety compliance with ISO 10218-1 and ISO/TS 15066, Omron said. Repetitive tasks that can be automated with the cobot include machine tending, loading and unloading, assembly, screw driving, gluing, testing, or soldering, the company added.

Built-in vision system, safety compliance

Features of the TM Series Collaborative Robot include:

  • Intuitive programming interface: The robot reduces installation and setup times compared with traditional industrial robots, thanks to a flowchart-based programming interface and intuitive teaching, Omron said. No prior robot programming experience is necessary.
  • An integrated on-arm vision system that reduces setup time. Integrated lighting and built-in vision system helps capture products with a wide viewing angle. Image sensing functions include pattern matching, barcode reading, and color identification, among others.
  • Human-machine collaboration safety compliance: Omron said this ensures “safe cooperation between humans and machines, and reduces installation time by eliminating the need for industrial safety guarding.

Multiple versions of the cobot are available – a full description of specifications are available in this datasheet.
