Artificial intelligence and robotics job postings continue to surge, according to a new report by the Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA), which publishes monthly data on IT job listings.

In the emerging tech category, the association said there were more than 248,000 job postings between January and September, an increase of 63% compared with the same period in 2017. AI job postings are up 149% compared with last year, with 37,829 postings, and robotics job listings are up 23%, with 51,112 postings. Blockchain jobs posted a 423% increase, with 12,463 postings this year, the CompTIA said.

The IT sector, which the CompTIA tracks monthly, added an estimated 5,900 jobs in September, with growth in custom software development and computer system design; computer and electronic products manufacturing; and data processing, hosting and related services.

The unemployment rate for IT occupations, which includes robotics and AI professionals, was reported as 2% in September, compared with 2.8% in September 2017. In the U.S., the overall unemployment rate declined to 3.7% in September, with nonfarm payroll employment increasing by 134,000, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported last week.
