SEOUL, South Korea – Doosan Robotics, which develops collaborative robots, today announced plans to establish its first U.S. headquarters. The office, set to open in Buford, Georgia, by the end of 2019, will help the company accelerate its distribution efforts and will include sales, marketing, training, and customer service functions for the Americas.
Doosan produced its first generation of cobots in 2018, which then grew into multiple channels for the company. At the Automate show in April, the company launched four M Series cobot models in the U.S., all of which include torque sensors on each of its six joints, providing human-like dexterity in automation and safety functionality. Since then, the company said it reached distribution and support agreements with multiple dealers in the U.S., including RG Group, The Tool House, and Ellison Technology, with plans to expand its growing distribution network.

“We are excited to announce our commitment in the U.S. market with the expansion of our sales network and establishment of the first U.S. office in Georgia,” said Byungseo Lee, CEO of Doosan Robotics. “Now the largest market worldwide, the U.S. market is expected to grow by 48% annually until 2023. We will continue to provide products and services that meet the automation demands in the U.S.” With its partnerships, the company can work in Canada and Mexico, and it has plans to expand to South America by 2020.
Doosan said its cobots can serve several customer needs through a broad range of capabilities, with a working radius of 35.4 to 66.9 inches, and load capacity range between 13.2 and 33.1 pounds. Since the launch, the cobots have been used across vertical markets that include automotive, electronics, and academic research.
Doosan Robotics’ parent company, Doosan Group, was founded in 1896 and has 36 subsidiaries worldwide, generating $16 billion in revenues in 2018. It specializes in machinery, plant engineering and component materials. Doosan Robotics said it holds the largest cobot market share in South Korea. In addition to expanding to the U.S., it said it is focused on expanding to other markets, including Europe and Asia.
The collaborative robotics market continues to grow – an ABI Research report recently said the yearly revenue for cobot arms will reach $11.8 billion by 2030, with a compound annual growth rate of 28.6%.
