In this podcast, Robot Report editor Steve Crowe chats with Association for Advancing Automation (A3) president Jeff Burnstein. A3 recently released data that showed sales of robots in North America increased 3.5% overall in 2020. More strikingly, yearly orders of robots from non-automotive sectors surpassed automotive robot orders for the first time. Burnstein describes these figures and discusses what the numbers mean for the robotics industry today and going forward.

Crowe also speaks to Henrik Bennetsen and Maria Telleria, two of the co-founders of Canvas, a startup that recently exited stealth mode. Canvas is developing an automated drywall finishing solution that utilizes robotics technologies. Crowe and the Canvas duo discuss the company’s system, the technology and challenges involved, and the business opportunity for the company.

Crowe also comments on the week’s top robotics stories, including AutoX launching a fully driverless robotaxi service in Shenzhen, Softbank’s new robotics joint venture, and how Amazon plans to upskill its employees in mechatronics and robotics.
