To all the master sushi chefs out there, you better start looking over your shoulder. The robots are coming.
OK, that’s probably a little strong, but the video above, first spotted by IEEE Spectrum, shows a sushi robot working inside the showroom of robotics manufacturer Kawasaki.
The robot can make sushi in under a minute. The sushi robot is piecing together the components for nigiri, a traditional type of sushi in which a piece of raw fish sits on rice.
One robotic arm grasps the rice and moves nigiri pieces to a wooden block. Another robot arm squeezes some wasabi onto the rice. It also picks up a small vacuum, which it then uses to lift up the fish and place it on the rice.[Source: YouTube via IEEE Spectrum]
