GreyOrange launches a fully autonomous order picking solution leveraging Vicarious picking robots

Description:
In March 2021, GreyOrange teamed up with Vicarious to bring a unique, fully autonomous, order picking solution to market. The GreyMatter Fulfillment Operating System (FOS) oversees the entire fulfillment workflow for this solution. The FOS provides oversight of the GreyOrange Ranger AMRs to bring bulk inventory into and out of a pick-put station with a Vicarious vertical autonomous robotic picking arm. The FOS also orchestrates the Vicarious picking robot to properly configure each specific customer order.

Analysis:
Vicarious’ computer-vision and gripper technology enables it to handle unstructured and hard to grasp items. The Vicarious robot is capable of picking items from vertically oriented bulk storage. The combination of automated order picking by Vicarious, together with the continual flow of bulk inventory with the GreyOrange AMRs, is a unique fulfillment workflow solution on the market. The FOS has knowledge about all of the customer orders for the day, and orchestrates all of the automation on the warehouse floor to fulfill customer orders. The result is that this solution is helping e-commerce and omnichannel players increase the efficiency of their operations by 300 to 400 percent while also providing safe and socially-distanced work environments for their associates.  – Mike Oitzman
