Researchers at Oxford University took a shot at estimating how robots will affect the job market (pdf) in 20 years.
NPR went ahead and used that information to create a database of jobs and the likelihood they’ll soon be done by a robot.
So, what jobs are hardest for robots? Any job that requires cleverness, negotiation, and constant interaction with humans will be tough to replace. The easiest job to replace? Telemarketers, and that’s already being done.
The researchers admit that these estimates are rough, but they consider it a snapshot of what the future might look like. And if you live in Maine, it’s looking a little scary as, according to the database, 14 of the top 20 jobs in the Pine Tree State are at risk of being automated.
With that bad news in mind, we wanted to share the jobs least likely to be done by a robot, according to this NPR database. The results may or may not surprise you.
