For those who build or use robots, weight and power are key considerations. From surgical systems and mobile pick-and-place operations to space exploration, precision robotics relies on reliable components specific to each application. Frameless motors are one approach to getting the most performance while minimizing physical requirements, but they’re not for every use.
Frameless motors, or flat motors without the usual housing, allow for a high power density and reduced robot size and weight. However, they require technical sophistication of the engineers incorporating them into their systems and a clear understanding of how the application shapes the design specifications.
In this webcast, Robotics Business Review will chat with Joe Martino and Scott Hamilton, sales engineers at maxon precision motors, about the benefits and challenges posed by frameless motors.
Maxon has previously provided such motors on a custom basis, and it recently began selling them as a standard offering. It also offers the support necessary for these precision components.
